Their main purpose is to collect souls of the living and dead and give them to their leader in which he then absorbs to gain more power. After an amount of training they can literally grab onto anyone's soul and pull it out though it can take a lot of energy but for the most part once they grab onto your soul and get a good grip of it the creature is paralyzed and put into a large amount of pain. They are also used to search out more who have the ability to see the invisable fire, the base of their powers. If they do, they are ordered to capture those creatures and bring them back to the master. Any creature who has a large knowledge about ghosts and creatures like them will most likely know about these special creatures. For the most part all of them are lead by a single or two at most masters who after time have been named the the 'Master of Souls' or many know them as Masouls and any of the ones they are in control of are Exsoul's.
The Exsouls are found by a rare and special ability that is linked to ones soul. The ability to see a powerful and normally invisable fire, when someone is found to have 'Exsoul Eyes' They are normally taken away as quickly as possible to the Exsoul city, where they will be forced through a painful change. It is something that can't be undone and unlocks the powers that before only shows themselfs in the eyes. After that the new Exsouls are trained for a long time, much of this training is usually painful, until they are ready to do their 'jobs' of collecting souls.
The easyest sign of a Exsoul is their chains. Something that MUST be worn at all times. These chains are put into a exsoul as soon as they are forced to change and if they are ever removed the Exsoul would die. When a Exsoul is made it brings more power into their soul to allow more use of their powers, but this strengthens the soul enough that the body can no longer contain it and under normal conditions the pet in question would die in a short amount of time. The chains are used as a way to keep the soul contained inside the body but if the chins are removed or broken then the soul and body can't stay connected and the Exsoul dies.
A Exsoul's biggest fear is death. Since if a Exsoul dies their soul is automaticly absourbed into the Masoul, a place where they will go through eternal pain and trapped in darkness.
The MaSoul is the master of the Exsouls. This is the one who controls every single Exsoul, keeps them in constent fear and pain, and continues to be the cause of constent deaths. Its power level is unknown since no one (Besides the First *explained later*) has ever seen it. But because of the amount of soul's it has absourbed its power could be limitless.
The Ranks are a group of 10-12 Exsouls who have the greatest amount of power, under the Masoul of course. The strongest Rank is the first (Someone who's power doubles the seconds) and is the closest connection to the MaSoul. The Ranks are made by inserting some of the MaSoul's energy into them, in the same way a normal Exsoul is made, though the first energy reseved is just a ranks. If the MaSoul's power was used at first it would just kill them all from a over serge of power. Even when those who are chosen and belived to have enough stamina and strength to adapt to the new and more powerful energy, very few pass. But those who do become the ranks. Even amoung the ranks, mattering on your number it gives you more powers and ability's. Only the top five ranks have the ability to make new Exsouls.
The ranks are the only, minor, acception to the chain rules. This is because they have two sets of chains. One is the same as when they where made into a Exsoul, but the second is put on after receving the MaSoul's energy. These are power limiters. Even surviving the transpher of power a rank can't handle the Masoul's continuous and powerful energy for so long, it would kill them in a matter of a couple days. This isn't very useful now is it? So the power limiters are used to keep the energy in check and keep the ranks alive. These chains can be taken off or broken (easly repaired in seconds for the ranks) to bring out the full energy for a battle if needed. Ranks are smart enough though not to push it since this does drain them. Also because of this the ranks can keep under cover if needed, since with their limiters on they can seem weaker then some strong single chained Exsouls. Ranks also drain on energy quicker with the limiters on.
Ranks currently known are the First, who is a female draik. Spartoz who is the former fourth rank, and Mehx a Krawk and the 12th rank.
Normal Exsouls, once that have done enough training, will be set up with a team of other Exsouls. Normally these teams are made of three to five Exsouls, and some of the stronger teams are lead by Ranks. Their main jobs are to search out new eye holders and collect more souls. They can also be sent on specific jobs which can be scouting out things, information gathering, list goes on.
These are pets that where born with Exsoul eyes. This is a rare train centered around the soul. This meens a parent who has Exsoul eyes will most likly not pass it down to their child. One twin can have them and the other won't. Those kinds of things. Its not connected by blood or family in any way. With the eyes alone some fire can be made but it is weaker then a normal, relesed Exsoul's and drains them quicker. But with out being relesed the keep their normal colors and chains are not needed. It also seems that there are petpet's with the eyes.
